ON A SIMILAR THEME THIS PHOTOGRAPH BY RICHARD AVEDON SHOWS A MODEL SURROUNDED BY TWO ELEPHANTS. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS? A GLAMAOROUS MODEL SURROUNDED BY BIG HEAVY ANIMALS LIKE ELEPHANTS. ALSO IT IS NOT A LOCATION YOU WOULD NORMALLY ASSOCIATE WITH MODELLING. |
this photograph by rankin is a much more modern approach, here the photographer has left areas of large black space into the advertising text and logos. this is a portrait photo taken for a very particular purpose. it is not just a magazine illustration. perhaps you want to take photographs to advertise a product (jewelery, perfume, for examples) |
finally, two completely different example of portrait photography; here by english photographer don mccullin. he has photographed a man living rough on the street, he has concentrated just on the face to show the incredible detail of his skin, hair and beard. it is printed very dark with high contrast, the result is a photograph that forces you to think sbout the man himself. |
